Typhoon Pepito Weakens After Crossing Luzon Landmass

Typhoon Pepito has weakened after crossing mainland Luzon overnight.

The mountainous terrain it encountered caused the storm to lose strength, and it has been downgraded to a typhoon category.

Pepito is expected to maintain its typhoon intensity until it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this afternoon.

The storm’s center was last located 145 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

Pepito now carries maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near its center, with gusts of up to 160 km/h.

It continues to move northwest at a speed of 30 km/h.

Signal No. 3 is raised over parts of Ilocos Sur, northwestern La Union, and western Abra, affecting areas including Vigan City, Sinait, and Salcedo.

Signal No. 2 is in effect for Ilocos Norte, other parts of Ilocos Sur and La Union, Pangasinan, parts of Abra, and parts of Mountain Province, Benguet, and northern Zambales.

Signal No. 1 remains over Apayao, Kalinga, areas of Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, portions of Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and central Zambales.
