Power Outages and Evacuations as Super Typhoon Pepito Hits Catanduanes

Catanduanes is now experiencing the impact of Super Typhoon Pepito as authorities raised Signal No. 5 over the province.

Robert Monterola, Head of Operations at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Catanduanes, confirmed in an interview with Bombo Radyo Legazpi that heavy rain and strong winds have begun.

A storm surge hit the coastal areas early this morning, prompting the evacuation of residents living near the shorelines.

The Catanduanes capitol is now filled with evacuees, with over 400 individuals taking shelter at the site.

Officials assured that all residents have been moved to safer locations, estimating that around 35% of the population will be affected by the typhoon.

Monitoring of the typhoon’s movement continues to ensure timely updates and warnings for residents about the storm’s impact.

A total power shutdown has been implemented across the province to mitigate potential risks associated with the typhoon’s intensity.

All operations of line workers in Virac, Bato, San Miguel, Baras, Gigmoto, and San Andres have also been suspended.

The Provincial Government of Catanduanes reminded residents to charge their devices and prepare flashlights, candles, and batteries.
