According to Barangay Captain Adolfo Benicta, the family was attempting to cross the river from Barangay San Mariano to Santa to save their goats when their bamboo raft overturned mid-river.

Edward managed to regain control of the raft and saved his father, Noli, but his mother, Mary Ann, is still being searched for by rescuers.

Noli was taken to the hospital for medical assessment and is in stable condition.

The family’s relative explained that the Darias used the bamboo raft to reach their goats, which they had been sheltering on higher ground.
