The Department of Health (DOH) recorded more than 2,700 leptospirosis infections in Metro Manila from January to October 2024, a notable rise brought by flooding and severe rains.

Residents exposed to flooding, especially in flood-prone areas, are in considerable danger of contracting the disease, which is spread by polluted water.

DOH officials advised people to get medical help once they experience symptoms like fever and muscle soreness, particularly after coming in contact with floodwaters.

The health department stressed the significance of prevention, particularly by avoiding exposure to floodwater and wearing protective gear, as the rainy season continues.

To stop the spread, authorities are also making sure that medications are available and that awareness programs are open for everyone.
