The Cagayan Valley Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recently held a Pre-Disaster Risk Analysis meeting to prepare for Typhoon Marce’s potential impact on the Cagayan Valley region.

According to Alvin Ayson, Information Officer for the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 2, Emergency Operation Centers have been activated with precautionary measures in place to monitor flood- and landslide-prone areas continuously.

Officials are also closely watching water levels in the Cagayan River, which acts as a catch basin for water runoff from surrounding mountains.

While specific flood-prone and landslide-prone areas have not yet been pinpointed, the OCD has identified Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino Province, and parts of Cagayan as vulnerable based on previous typhoon monitoring.

Preemptive evacuations are underway in certain Cagayan Valley towns as a precaution against Typhoon Marce’s potential effects.

Individuals with damaged homes are automatically included in the preemptive evacuation.
