NBI Arrests Student Behind Cebu University Bomb Threat

The National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas (NBI-7) has arrested the suspect behind the bomb threat at Cebu Technological University-Main Campus on Monday, October 21, 2024.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Althea Faith Bordario, a freshman Early Childhood Education student at CTU-MC, was taken into custody.

Bordario reportedly used the alias “John Steve” to post the bomb threat on Facebook on October 21, prompting immediate evacuation of students for safety.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Cebu, NBI-7 Director Atty. Rennan Augustus Oliva confirmed that Bordario was apprehended at her residence in Barangay Tawason, Mandaue City, on October 22, 2024.

Special units from the Cyber Crime Unit in the capital assisted in tracking down and arresting the suspect.

This is the first recorded case in Cebu City where an individual has been identified and arrested for spreading bomb threats or “bomb jokes.”

Officials reminded the public that bomb threats are serious crimes, carrying a possible five-year prison sentence and a ₱40,000.00 fine.
