A police officer was declared dead on arrival after his motorcycle collided with a close van on Manila North Road in Brgy. 14, Bungon, Batac City.
The victim, identified as a 29-year-old Batac City police officer and resident of Brgy. Ayusan Norte, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, was riding a Yamaha Aerox 155 motorcycle.
The driver of the Isuzu Forward close van, identified as a 36-year-old Laoag City resident of Brgy. 55-A Barit, was reportedly uninjured.
According to the Batac City Police Station, the northbound motorcycle collided with the southbound van, which had encroached into the motorcycle’s lane.
The impact left the officer with severe head injuries, and he was transported to Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The collision’s force also caused the officer’s motorcycle to catch fire, though the van driver remained unharmed.
