Radio Reporter Shot Dead, Motive Under Investigation

Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a radio reporter in Zamboanga City on Tuesday night, October 22, 2024.

Police Regional Office-9 Director Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey Masauding identified the victim as Maria Vilma Rodriguez, a 56-year-old single mother of four and host of a public affairs program on 105.9 EMedia Radio, which also has an online platform.

According to the police, the suspect shot Rodriguez three times with a .38 revolver while she was seated near her mother’s store on Comet Street in Barangay Tumaga.

Rodriguez was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctor.

The suspect fled the scene, and authorities are still working to identify the assailant.

An initial investigation suggests that a serious dispute between Rodriguez and some relatives may have led to her murder.
