PAGASA Warns of Potential Tropical Storm as LPA Nears PAR

The state weather bureau continues to monitor a low-pressure area (LPA) located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), approximately 1,050 kilometers east-southeast of Luzon.

According to PAGASA, there is a high probability that the LPA will intensify into a tropical storm in the coming days.

The LPA is expected to enter PAR on Sunday or early Monday.

Based on DOST-PAGASA’s weather monitoring, the LPA’s extension is already affecting parts of the country, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, thunderstorms, and lightning to areas including Aurora, Quezon, the Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and SOCSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City).

Residents in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas have been advised to take precautions due to the risks of flooding and landslides.

Metro Manila and other parts of the country can expect cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms.

DOST-PAGASA also released a 12-hour rainfall update covering North Cotabato, Maguindanao, Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Sorsogon, Masbate, Albay, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Samar, Biliran, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat. These areas may experience light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms.

Residents near mountainous regions are also being warned about potential landslides.
