The poll body also filed 117 special action suits motu proprio to name someone a nuisance candidate.

Meanwhile, 24 special action cases were brought for the cancellation of certain applicants’ certificates of candidacy (COCs) and one case for disqualification.

Overall, Comelec reported it had received 246 special action cases in connection with the 2025 midterm elections.

Comelec chairman George Garcia previously promised to resolve complaints regarding nuisance candidates for the next elections by the end of November this year.

The deadline for filing certificates of COC ran from October 1 to October 8 with 183 senate candidates and 156 party lists submitting Certificates of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA).

The Comelec has produced an initial list of senate candidates whose names may appear on the official ballot for next year’s elections.

The FBI said that the list was “without prejudice to the decision of the Division or En Banc in the petitions to declare as nuisance candidates filed by the Law Department.”
