Dela Rosa seeks Senate hearings on the drug war he formerly led

Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa plans to convene a Senate probe on the war on drugs, which he supervised from July 2016 to April 2018, to oppose hearings in the House of Representatives and, he says, to ensure fairness to those referenced in the investigation.

Dela Rosa said he hasn’t talked with his former employer, former President Rodrigo Duterte, but feels he is more willing to face the Senate than the House.

Royina Garma, a former police colonel, told House members last week that Duterte phoned her in May 2016 to assist build up a task force to replicate Davao City’s anti-drug campaign across the country.

She further said that the so-called drug war included a reward system for drug personalities killed, with payments varying based on whether the person killed was a supposed street-level pusher or a high-level distributor.

The PNP has confirmed that more than 6,000 people were killed in anti-drug operations and that those who died aggressively fought capture.
