In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Mary Joy admitted to hitting her husband with a dumbbell, claiming that voices told her to do so.

She revealed that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and depression, and was taking medication for her condition.

Mary Joy alleged that it was these voices that urged her to strike her husband, who sustained a head injury from the blow.

After the incident, she immediately took a public jeepney to the Bombo Radyo Iloilo office to turn herself in.
