In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia stated that the Philippine National Police (PNP) has found no connection between the ambush and the upcoming election.

Although Capistrano has previously been linked to politics, the incident is not being considered an election-related crime or violence.

Capistrano is the president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Bulacan.

His driver, Shedrick Suarez, was also killed in the ambush.
