Newly-installed Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has pledged to personally lead the closure of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) by the end of the year, following the deadline set by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In an interview, Remulla stated that a final inspection of all POGO operations in the country will take place, and by December 31, 2024, all POGO establishments will be shut down, with none left operating.

Remulla also emphasized that he will personally oversee the closure of POGOs in various locations if local government units (LGUs) fail to implement the directive.

He pointed out that the first POGO hub to be closed will be located on an island under his jurisdiction.

Remulla clarified that the property where these POGO hubs have been established does not belong to him.

He stressed that he will not spare anyone continuing POGO operations, whether they are Filipinos or Chinese nationals.

Meanwhile, Remulla admitted that managing the Philippine National Police (PNP) poses a significant challenge in his new role as DILG Secretary.

He acknowledged that while the PNP is composed of professionals, internal competition and politics within the organization require close attention.

As a result, Remulla is set to recommend structural changes to the President, stating that it is time to streamline the organization.

In the coming days, Remulla will announce his new policies.
