BUTUAN CITY—Former President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed openness to the idea of running for Davao City mayor, citing strong public clamor.

Initially, Duterte denied rumors of running for senator, saying his age makes it difficult to handle national-level responsibilities.

He mentioned during a media forum that while he is no longer keen on a Senate run, he has heard Davaoeños urging him to run for mayor, which he approved.

When asked about the future of his son, current Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, the former president said his son may run for vice mayor instead.
