The Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) has begun its investigation into the alleged involvement of police officials in the murder of retired general and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board secretary Wesley Barayuga.

According to IAS Inspector General Brigido Dulay, the investigation will start by reviewing testimonies presented during the hearings of the Quad Committee of the House of Representatives.

Among these is the testimony of Lt. Col. Santie Mendoza, a whistleblower currently serving under the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG).

Dulay also stated that the IAS would closely monitor future hearings of the committee and gather any further evidence or testimonies that may surface. He added that the IAS would consider using this information in its own investigation.

The probe will not only focus on Mendoza’s testimony but will also review earlier findings related to Barayuga’s killing.

This comes after PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil ordered the reopening of the case, following explosive revelations in the recent Quad Committee hearings, where former PCSO general manager Royina Garma and National Police Commission commissioner Edilberto Leonardo were implicated as masterminds in the murder.
