A major telecommunications company has issued a warning to the public regarding a new modus operandi involving voice phishing scams.

In this scheme, fraudsters pose as officials from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and call potential victims, falsely accusing them of involvement in illegal activities using their mobile numbers.

The scammers then demand money from their targets, threatening arrest if they do not comply.

The telecom company urged the public to avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information with unknown callers.

According to the company, they blocked 236 million scam messages during the second quarter of this year, marking a 79% decrease compared to the 1.1 billion messages blocked last year.
