The Supreme Court has denied the petition for a writ of amparo filed by the camp of former presidential spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque, which sought special protection from the Quad Committee of the House of Representatives.

The petition, filed on September 23 by Roque’s daughter, aimed to prevent the committee from compelling Roque to attend its hearings.

Roque’s camp argued that legislative inquiries should respect the rights of individuals who are either invited or affected by the proceedings.

However, Supreme Court spokesperson Camille Ting explained that the writ of amparo is only applicable in cases of extra-judicial killings or threats related to such, which are not present in Roque’s situation.

Earlier, the House had declared Atty. Roque a fugitive after multiple failed attempts to serve an arrest order against him.

The arrest orders stemmed from Roque’s contempt citation by the House following his failure to provide evidence regarding allegations of his family’s wealth increase.
