First Katihan Patrol Launched to Prepare Tactical Units for International Military Exercises

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – Teams from various Philippine Army Major Units (PAMUs) embarked on the six-day inaugural Katihan Patrol during a send-off ceremony held at the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) Headquarters, Camp Tecson, San Miguel, Bulacan, on September 25, 2024.

Katihan Patrol 2024 is designed to assess the operational capabilities of 153 personnel from different PAMUs through a rigorous 50-kilometer patrol exercise across Bulacan’s challenging terrain.

The exercise mirrors the UK’s renowned Exercise Cambrian Patrol, in which the FSRR earned back-to-back Silver Medals in 2019 and 2023.

This initiative also aims to prepare Philippine tactical units for participation in international military training exercises alongside allied forces worldwide.

In his keynote speech, FSRR Commander Brig. Gen. Isagani O. Criste encouraged the participants to demonstrate their operational excellence in key military areas such as military briefings, close-quarter battles (CQB), prisoner of war (POW) handling, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense, reconnaissance patrols, river crossings, patrol base operations, call-for-fire procedures, landmine breaching, explosive identification, tactical combat casualty care, jungle raids, and marksmanship.
