The municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet, celebrates the recognition of Barangay Shilan for securing 2nd place in the Best Tourism Community Village awards in the Cordillera region.
The Barangay Shilan Tourism Guide Association earned the award during a program led by the Department of Tourism-Cordillera.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, La Trinidad Councilor Belmer Elis credited the village’s success to the spirit of “bayanihan,” or community cooperation, among the locals.
He noted that the community worked together in planting flowers and cleaning their surroundings to enhance the area’s beauty and environmental sustainability.
Elis also mentioned plans to integrate this initiative into the new Beautification Ordinance for the municipality, with the hope that it will receive funding for implementation next year.
This ordinance aims to further improve and maintain the cleanliness and beauty of public spaces in La Trinidad.
He also called on all tourism stakeholders to continue their support and remain vigilant in addressing any challenges the community may face.
