DAGUPAN CITY – A Cyber Security Specialist has warned the public to exercise caution when consuming information online, as images and videos may often be generated by artificial intelligence (AI) and not be genuine.

Tzar Umang, a Cyber Security Specialist, shared his insights during an interview with Bombo Radyo Dagupan, emphasizing the dangers of deepfakes that can easily deceive regular viewers.

He noted that the inconsistencies in a video—such as mismatched lip movements and poor clarity—can be telltale signs of manipulation.

To distinguish between real and fake content, Umang suggested observing head movements.

While these discrepancies may not be obvious to the naked eye, specialized tools can reveal misalignments between facial expressions and spoken words.

Umang cautioned that such technology could be weaponized in upcoming elections to damage reputations and undermine individuals’ character.

Regarding a viral video that falsely depicted President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inhaling illegal drugs, Umang confirmed that fact-checkers identified it as fake.

He explained that advanced technology was employed to assess the integrity of the video.

Experts in digital media and AI previously established that the circulated video from July was manipulated, using a method known as “face swap,” as identified by SensityAI.
