Metro Manila, 19 September 2024 – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued its 24-hour public weather forecast, warning of heavy rains and potential hazards across parts of Luzon and Visayas, as the Southwest Monsoon continues to bring inclement weather.

Areas Affected by Monsoon Rains

Residents in Zambales and Bataan should brace for monsoon rains caused by the Southwest Monsoon, with the possibility of flash floods or landslides due to heavy to intense rainfall.

Occasional Rains in Other Areas

Meanwhile, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Occidental Mindoro, and Northern Palawan will experience occasional rains, which could result in flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy precipitation.

Cloudy Skies and Scattered Thunderstorms

In Metro Manila and areas such as Abra, Benguet, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Antique, Iloilo, and the rest of the Palawan and Ilocos Region, expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. These conditions may lead to localized flash floods or landslides due to moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall.

Partly Cloudy to Cloudy Skies with Isolated Showers

For the rest of Luzon and Visayas, the forecast predicts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, with possible flash floods during severe thunderstorms.

Mindanao Weather Conditions

Mindanao will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, brought by localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may occur during severe storms.

Wind and Coastal Water Conditions

  • The western section of Luzon will experience strong southwest to south winds and rough coastal waters, with wave heights between 2.8 to 4.0 meters.
  • In the Visayas and the rest of Luzon, expect moderate to strong south to southwest winds and moderate to rough coastal waters, with wave heights ranging from 1.2 to 3.0 meters.
  • Mindanao will have moderate southeast to south winds, with moderate coastal waters, and wave heights between 1.2 to 2.5 meters.

For the 24-hour period ending at 8:00 PM yesterday, the minimum temperature recorded was 25.8°C at 5:20 AM, while the maximum temperature reached 29.0°C at 2:00 PM. The relative humidity ranged from 77% to 92%.
