The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is verifying reports that a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief allegedly helped dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo leave the country, despite a hold departure order against her.
PAGCOR official Raul Villanueva confirmed the investigation during a Senate hearing on the illegal operations of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
The inquiry was sparked by Senator Risa Hontiveros, who raised concerns about the possibility that government officials may have assisted Guo and her associates in fleeing the country in exchange for large sums of money.
Villanueva also mentioned intelligence reports suggesting that several high-ranking immigration officials may be involved in the case.
The investigation continues as authorities look into the involvement of key figures in the government.
