Myanmar floods caused the death toll to rise to 226

Heavy rains and floods in Myanmar caused significant damage and took almost 300 lives and as many as 630,000 people could require assistance prompting demands for international assistance.

Typhoon Yagi delivered heavy rains and floods wreaking damage over Southeast Asia and parts of China.

Yagi slammed over northern Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar more than a week ago, causing floods and landslides that killed more than 500 people, according to official estimates.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), a disaster response agency, reported that floods had affected approximately 631,000 people in Myanmar.

Food, drinking water, shelter, and clothing are urgently needed, according to UNOCHA. The organization warned that relief efforts were seriously impeded by collapsed communication lines, blocked roads, and destroyed bridges.

Poor communications, particularly in distant locations, have often caused delays in the d information dissemination concerning casualties.

As reported by state-run media, flooding has destroyed five dams, four pagodas, and more than 65,000 dwellings.

The military junta and exiled opposition groups have sought international aid to address the crisis caused by flooding in the Southeast Asian nation.#
