Tropical Depression “Gener” to Exit PAR, Heavy Rains Expected

As of 10:00 AM today, Tropical Depression GENER is situated near Kibungan, Benguet, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and moving westward at a speed of 15 km/h. Strong winds extend outwards up to 200 km from its center.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 Raised

Due to the threat of strong winds, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over the following areas in Luzon: Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and Pampanga.

Heavy Rainfall and Severe Winds

In addition to strong winds, heavy rainfall is expected due to Tropical Depression GENER and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon. Severe winds are also possible in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds.

Coastal Waters Under Gale Warning

A Gale Warning is in effect over several coastal waters in the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon, the western and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon, the seaboards of Visayas, and the western, northern, and eastern seaboards of Mindanao. Sea travel in these areas is risky for small seacrafts.

Track and Intensity Outlook

GENER is expected to emerge over the West Philippine Sea today and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight or tomorrow. It may reach tropical storm category by tomorrow morning.

Public and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials.
