Tropical Depression “Gener” maintains its strength as it moves westward across Northern Luzon. As of 4:00 AM, the center of “Gener” was located near Alicia, Isabela, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and a central pressure of 996 hPa. The storm is moving westward at 30 km/h, with strong winds extending up to 360 km from its center.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been raised over several areas in Luzon, including Cagayan, Isabela, and parts of Metro Manila, with winds ranging from 39 to 61 km/h. The public is warned of minimal to minor threats to life and property. These wind signals will remain in effect for the next 36 hours.

In addition to strong winds, “Gener” is expected to bring heavy rains to Northern Luzon, with the Southwest Monsoon further enhancing rain and gusts over parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Residents are advised to monitor for potential flooding and landslides, particularly in coastal and mountainous areas.

Sea conditions will be rough in the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon, southern Luzon, and Mindanao, with waves reaching up to 3.0 meters. Gale warnings have been issued, making sea travel risky for small seacrafts.

“Gener” is forecast to move over the coastal waters of Ilocos Sur or La Union today, exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by tomorrow.

It is expected to weaken slightly as it passes over Northern Luzon but may strengthen into a tropical storm once it reaches the West Philippine Sea.
