Nearly 300 Prisoners Escape in Nigeria Amid Devastating Floods

A total of 281 prisoners escaped following widespread flooding in Northeastern Nigeria.

According to Umar Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Correctional Service, seven of the escaped inmates have been recaptured.

The inmates took advantage of the situation when the walls of the correctional facility collapsed due to the massive flooding.

The Medium Security Custodial Center and staff quarters in the city were also damaged.

Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend the remaining escaped inmates.

The days of relentless rainfall have caused widespread flooding, with over 30 people reported dead.
