Military on Alert in Visayas as Mt. Kanlaon Shows Increased Volcanic Activity

The military in Visayas has been placed on alert following the increased volcanic activity of Mt. Kanlaon, which has been raised to Alert Level 2 by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). Rapidly rising activity levels have been monitored, indicating the potential for a magmatic eruption.

The Visayas Command has confirmed that 34 Disaster Response Task Units (DRTU) from the 303rd Infantry Brigade of Joint Task Force Spear are on standby.

These units are equipped with essential disaster response tools, mobility, and communication assets to assist with evacuation, search and rescue operations, and other critical tasks.

Lt. Gen. Fernando Reyes, VISCOM commander, has assured that proactive measures will be implemented to mitigate the potential impacts of Mt. Kanlaon’s unrest.
