Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez has urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) and other relevant agencies to increase the number of Kadiwa stores selling rice at lower prices.

His statement came in support of the newly launched “Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka Rice” program—a collaboration between the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) and irrigation associations aimed at providing affordable rice to vulnerable sectors.

Speaking at the NIA Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (UPRIIS) Gymnasium in Cabanatuan City, Romualdez praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to contribute to national food security and help reduce the cost of essential goods.

Romualdez also commended the DA’s efforts in expanding Kadiwa centers, where consumers can purchase rice at ₱29 per kilogram, allowing more Filipinos to benefit from lower prices.

During his recent visits to various markets in Metro Manila, Romualdez confirmed that rice is already being sold for ₱42 per kilogram.

The Speaker emphasized that these actions not only provide immediate relief to Filipino families but also support the government’s efforts to combat inflation and ensure food security.

He reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to backing President Marcos Jr.’s programs aimed at making essential goods more affordable and ensuring a stable food supply.

Romualdez pointed out the significant role of Congress in passing legislation to protect the welfare of Filipinos and actively exercising its oversight powers.

He expressed confidence that the rice prices would further decrease in the coming months with the harvest season and the arrival of imported rice.
