Tropical Storm Ferdie, with the international name Bebinca, has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The storm was last spotted over 1,300 kilometers northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts reaching 105 kph. It is moving northwestward at 35 kph.
With the storm nearing, Ferdie is expected to further intensify the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” which will bring heavy rains affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
In its latest weather update, PAGASA advised residents in these regions to prepare for potential flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying areas.
