Department of Justice Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Mico Clavano IV confirmed that it won’t be long before expelled Negros Oriental Congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. is returned to the Philippines.
According to Clavano, it was Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta himself who wanted Teves to be sent back to the country.
It can be recalled that in June, the Court of Appeals in Timor-Leste granted the government’s request for Teves’ extradition, who is facing trial for the murder of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
In a statement on August 28, the Department of Justice announced that the motion for reconsideration filed by Teves’ camp against his extradition was denied.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla praised the rejection of Teves’ motion, calling it “a significant step forward” in the pursuit of justice.
