7-Year-Old Student Injured in Hit-and-Run; Suspect Surrenders

A 7-year-old student was injured in a hit-and-run incident in Barangay Cabudian, Banga, South Cotabato, after being struck by an NMAX motorcycle.

The suspect has surrendered to the police, according to Police Lt. Adelyn Lazaga, spokesperson of Banga PNP, in an interview with Bombo Radyo Koronadal.

The victim, identified as “Jon-Jon,” a Grade 2 student and resident of the area, was hit near Cristiano Ladot Elementary School at around 1:30 PM on February 21, 2025.

According to Nativity Vanessa Reyes, Admin Officer 2 of Cristiano Ladot Elementary School, they were initially unaware of the accident as it occurred during lunch break.

Students later reported the incident, prompting a school guard to respond.

Witnesses said the motorcycle briefly stopped but immediately sped away upon seeing the school guard.

The injured child was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed a fracture in his left leg that would require surgery.

On February 23, 2025, the driver voluntarily surrendered to the authorities.

No charges will be filed against the suspect, as the driver’s family has reached a settlement with the victim’s family, agreeing to cover the medical expenses.
