7 Dead as Fertilizer Truck Loses Brakes, Plows Through Residents

Seven people were killed when a 10-wheeler truck carrying sacks of fertilizer plowed through vehicles and homes along the national highway in Barangay Malasila, Makilala, Cotabato, at around 8 a.m. on December 5, 2024.

Makilala PNP Chief PLTCOL Rolly Oranza confirmed the incident during an interview with Bombo Radyo Koronadal.

The truck, en route from Toril, Davao City to Kidapawan, lost its brakes upon reaching the area, crashing into vehicles and structures, including a fish car, tricycles, motorcycles, houses, and a boarding house.

Among the seven fatalities were the truck driver and a kindergarten pupil, with all victims pronounced dead on the spot.

Heavy equipment was deployed to clear the truck from the road and check for possible victims still trapped under the wreckage.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the identities of the victims and the cause of the accident.

Makilala’s mayor immediately suspended classes in nearby schools after the incident.
