A 24-year-old man from Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, was arrested for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban during a checkpoint in Barangay 28.

The suspect, identified as Archie Aragon, unemployed and a resident of Purok Arseo, Barangay Mansilingan, was found carrying an improvised firearm, locally known as “Pogakhang,” loaded with a live 20-gauge shotgun shell.

Comelec Bacolod Election Officer Atty. Revo Sorbito confirmed the arrest, emphasizing the strict implementation of the election gun ban as part of the preparations for the May 2025 midterm elections.

Sorbito explained that Comelec checkpoints do not necessarily require Comelec personnel to be present, except for specific updates or instructions that need to be enforced.

He also reminded all licensed firearm holders that their licenses to possess and carry firearms are temporarily suspended unless an exemption has been granted by Comelec.

Meanwhile, the Commission continues its Automated Counting Machines (ACM) roadshow in Bacolod City schools to educate the public about the voting process.

The roadshow has already visited Carlos Hilado Memorial State University-Alijis campus, with other schools to be scheduled soon.

The Comelec gun ban and checkpoint operations will remain in effect throughout the election period to ensure peace and order.
