GUNMEN shot and killed two senior high school students while they were on their way to school in Pikit, Cotabato, authorities reported.
According to the police, the victims, both 18 years old and classmates, were traveling together on a motorcycle when another motorcycle approached and opened fire on them.
The victims were from Barangay Kabalasan in Ligawasan, located within the Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (SGA-BARMM).
Residents found the bodies near an irrigation canal. One victim died at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries before reaching the hospital.
The police have not yet identified a person of interest or established a clear motive for the shooting. “We are still verifying details, and our investigation is ongoing,” said Lt. James Warren Caang, spokesperson for the Cotabato Police Provincial Office.
Investigators noted that both victims had no criminal records. “The two victims have no issues at school or within the community,” Caang added.
The authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the suspects and determine the reasons behind the attack. “We are calling for justice, and the Pikit Police, along with the chief of police, are gathering more information to identify a suspect,” Caang said.
