1 Dead, 4 Injured as Boat Capsizes in Mauban, Quezon

A boat capsized in Mauban, Quezon, leaving one dead and four others injured after being hit by strong waves and heavy rain, authorities confirmed.

The fatality was identified as Alyas Jeric, 23, while the injured victims were Alyas Will, 28, Alyas Angel, 26, and their one-year-and-five-month-old twins, all residents of Brgy. Silangang Palale, Tayabas City.

According to information from the Quezon Police Provincial Office obtained by Bombo Radyo Naga, the incident occurred on March 29 at around 4:00 p.m.

A motorized boat was traveling from Brgy. Sto. Niño to Brgy. Sta. Lucia when it was suddenly hit by strong waves and heavy rain, causing it to overturn.

Alyas Will and Alyas Angel managed to save their twin children and swam toward the shallow part of the water, but Alyas Jeric was swept away by strong waves into the deeper part of the sea.

The Philippine Coast Guard and Bantay Dagat immediately launched a search and rescue operation.

Authorities recovered Jeric’s lifeless body floating at sea at around midnight on March 30, 2025.

The victims were taken to the hospital, but doctors declared Alyas Jeric dead due to drowning.

Meanwhile, the twins remain under medical observation at the hospital for further treatment.
